The Minnesota Wild have extended forward Kirill Kaprizov's contract for five years, worth $9 million per season.
This pact will inevitably set the table for negotiations for the rest of the forwards who are restricted free agents, including Elias Pettersson and Brady Tkachuk.
So the most recent Calder Trophy winner is getting a short-term deal with the team that drafted him in the fifth round in the 2015 draft. He had an excellent first season with the Midwestern team with 51 points, including 27 goals, in 55 games.
Let's remember that this saga had taken extensive measures, when a rumor circulated that Kaprizov could have returned to the KHL. However, this information was most likely a pressure tactic to try to convince Bill Guerin to give in to Kaprizov's demands (guess).
A big deal for the Minnesota Wild who will be able to count on the services of their best forward for at least the next five seasons.
