Wild general manager Bill Guerin, a good friend of Kent Hughes, doesn't think that's what will happen. In fact, he even advised him to take the job in the Habs organization. According to him, you do not build an organization in two steps.
"I made some important decisions, but it took time. You have to be patient. You can't trade your problems today. It doesn't work anymore. Transactions are difficult to make. It takes a perfect marriage."
While the Wild general manager hasn't been extremely active in the trade market with only five trades involving NHL players since he took over in 2019, he still has a great team right now. The Wild have a 25-10-3 record this season and are tied for 10th overall with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
It remains to be seen if Hughes will take more advice from his friend Bill or if he will be influenced by Jeff Gorton who is known to be very active. If Hughes follows Guerin's philosophy, the Habs lineup next year could look a lot like this year's!
