The Toronto Maple Leafs have just received some devastating news: the team's number one defenseman, Morgan Rielly, has been placed on the long-term injured list with a knee injury.
There is no information at this time as to whether or not surgery may be necessary in his case, but clearly, Sheldon Keefe's team will be without Rielly for a long period of time.
This news comes at a critical time for the Leafs, as the team was already without Jake Muzzin and TJ Brodie. This means that the three highest paid defensemen in the organization will be out for the next few games.
This is what Toronto's defensive lineup looks like now. It's not going to be pretty in the next few weeks.
