This summer, we saw that the value of good young defensemen was very high. Several signed lucrative contracts in the off-season like Seth Jones, Darnell Nurse and Zach Werenski. They all agreed to contracts with an annual payroll impact of more than nine million for multiple seasons.
The next to sign a similar deal would be Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy. The agreement of the American back will end at the end of the current season and it pays him 4.9 million per season since 2019.
According to Elliotte Friedman, McAvoy's contract could be higher than Werenski's with the Columbus Blue Jackets. We are talking about an annual amount of more than 9.5 million. That's huge!
The American defenseman scored 122 points in 235 NHL games in the regular season. He also had 32 points in 65 playoff games. He is entering his fifth season in the Bettman circuit this year.
Do you think he deserves such a high salary?
