Last week, Connor McDavid had complained publicly because a penalty was not called against him.
Former NHL head coach John Tortorella told Connor McDavid to shut his mouth in a column on ESPN. He criticized McDavid for not having the style of play required to be successful in the playoffs. "Torts" said that McDavid will have to change his attitude and his style of play if he wants to be successful in the playoffs.
Personally, I was looking forward to hearing Connor McDavid's response. The hockey world is a small one, so messages get delivered quickly. McDavid was put on notice by Tortorella's comments.
Number 97 sarcastically responded to a reporter's question, also answering Tortorella in passing for his words. He was asked if he thought there were enough penalties called, for actions against him.
McDavid responded as follows:
"I guess I'll have to shut up about it."
You can feel the tip of a harpoon being aimed at Tortorella. He obviously took it in stride, without it doing too much damage.
