Disturbing scene with Montembeault: we just learned why Caufield shot at Samuel and it's really not his fault
A video that circulated the web last night showed a concerning scene during warm-up where goaltender Samuel Montembeault was hit by a puck in an unprotected area.
Such incidents are rare in the NHL, and we've seen goalies suffer injuries from similar accidents.
The puck came from a shot by Cole Caufield, but there's new information.
It wasn't visible in the initial video, but here's a second one that clearly shows why Cole Caufield is not to blame.
So, it's not as simple as «Cole didn't look and shot Samuel in the back.»
Caufield started his move when Montembeault was not in the net, and while he was looking up at his puck, Samuel moved in front of the net, with his back turned.
It's just a case of bad luck and poor timing.
Obviously, it's not serious, but it's interesting to know that it wasn't a «Pee-Wee mistake» by Caufield, as some observers had said.
