This was one of the biggest NHL trades of the decade, and it ended a big chapter in Sens history.
Unless...?
See what Sportsnet's Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman just mentioned:
Imagine the scenario! So there really would have been serious discussions between the general managers of Ottawa and San Jose, trying to make a trade involving Karlsson. This is huge.
Let's also remember that, just yesterday, general manager Pierre Dorion admitted that he had talked about big trades at the general managers' meeting.
He may have talked about it yesterday with Mike Grier of the Sharks.
It's true that the Sens are actively looking for an impact defenseman, a player capable of helping them win right now, and it's true that the Sharks are open to trading Karlsson, but it would take a lot of salary gymnastics to make it happen. To be continued!
Even if San Jose held back 50% of Karlsson's salary, it would take a bit more to make it work.
One thing is for sure, it would be quite a coup to see "EK65" back in Ottawa, and to hear Sportsnet's informants, it seems almost realistic, but let's wait and see.
Karlsson, 32, has been phenomenal this season. He's back to being the Erik Karlsson of the good old days (the one who was captain in Ottawa). He has 24 points and 10 goals in only 18 games this season. Really impressive!
What do you think he is worth on the trade market?
