We told you about it yesterday, the excellent Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek (Sportsnet) had a nice surprise in store for the most recent weekend, releasing a brand new episode of their podcast 32 Thoughts.
They were supposed to be on hiatus, but they pulled this episode out to make a big comeback on many of the hot topics of the summer, including the potential signing of Nazem Kadri as well as the possible future of Pierre-Luc Dubois with the Montreal Canadiens.
Friedman also revealed this:
Finally, concerning the Pierre-Luc Dubois file, see what the reputed informant finally had to say:
"When Pierre-Luc Dubois says he didn't ask for a trade to the Winnipeg Jets, I believe him and I believe it's true.
I just believe that he made it clear to the Jets' general manager that he's staying there for two more years and then he's going to test the free agent market (there, he could sign with the Montreal Canadiens)
And I agree with those who believe he will sign in Montreal, I think it is indeed the most plausible destination, even if many things can happen in two years.
I also definitely believe there have been trade discussions (between Montreal and Winnipeg), but Kevin Cheveldayoff (Jets GM) is extraordinarily patient on this file." - Elliotte Friedman
Music to the ears of Habs fans.
So that's a great summary of the situation and it will be really interesting to watch. Friedman, who is very knowledgeable, seems to believe (he too) that Kent Hughes will make a big splash in 2024 and Montreal would indeed be the favorite destination to sign Pierre-Luc Dubois.
It's big and it's confirmed. (that we are the favorites) At least, if it had to happen today, Dubois would almost certainly sign in Montreal.
The downside (as Friedman mentions) is that a lot can happen in two years.
