For several months, many experts have been constantly repeating that the 2023 draft will be exceptional and that it is an elite class.

To illustrate how solid the 2023 draft class is, expert Scott Wheeler (The Athletic) carried out a very interesting exercise.

Marco Normandin identified some interesting statements from Wheeler:

- Connor Bedard, Adam Fantilli and Matvei Michkov would all have been drafted first overall in 2020, 2021 and the 2022 drafts. (so ahead of Alexis Lafrenière, Owen Power and Juraj Slafkovsky)

- Wheeler also argues that Leo Carlsson, who is expected to be 4th in total in 2023, would have been drafted before Alexis Lafrenière and before Juraj Slafkovsky.

Just see his complete ranking, including the first pick in 2022 of the Montreal Canadiens, Juraj Slafkovsky.

Projected order of the 2023 NHL draft (top-10), if Slafkovsky was available, according to Scott Wheeler:

1. Connor Bedard

2. Adam Fantilli

3. Matvei Michkov

4. Leo Carlsson

5. Zach Benson

6. Brayden Yager

7. Dalibor Dvorsky

8. Eduard Sale

9. Juraj Slafkovsky

10. Calum Ritchie

It's incredible! According to Wheeler, Montreal Canadiens could therefore potentially add two (2) players that are better than their first overall pick in 2022, Slafkovsky, with their two first-round 2023 picks. (The CH and Florida Panthers picks)

If nothing changes, at the moment, the Habs would have the choices #6 and #9 in total.
