Yesterday, former NHL head coach and now ESPN analyst John Tortorella picked up Connor McDavid.
According to him, McDavid will have to change his style of play and attitude if he wants to eventually win a Stanley Cup. Tortorella really believes that McDavid will have to have a winning instinct and not just be willing to fill the net.
He's literally tired of hearing McDavid complain, especially about the penalty that wasn't called on this sequence:
See Tortorella's comments:
He clearly told McDavid to shut his mouth...
Frank Seravalli, a noted journalist, really disagreed with what "Torts" said, specifically, the title of his headline on McDavid which is titled "Shut up".
Again according to Seravalli, McDavid is not the problem, but rather the game that is hockey in general. He defended McDavid brilliantly, while also throwing a little arrow at Tortorella and the entire NHL.
John Tortorella got a kick in the pants with these comments from Seravalli. The officiating is clearly lacking, especially in the playoffs. There is always room for improvement, which is kind of the message Seravalli was trying to deliver.
It will be interesting to see what Tortorella's and maybe even Connor McDavid's responses will be.
