The Montreal Canadiens had a hard time drafting in the QMJHL during Trevor Timmins' "ordinary" reign. Yes, during the last draft, the Tricolore, certainly pushed by Geoff Molson, selected no less than four players from the QMJHL.

If it wasn't Molson who passed on his message, did Marc Bergevin understand the direct message that Gilles Courteau, the QMJHL commissioner, told him directly to his face?

"I always said to Marc Bergevin: stop pulling out your stats [of the number of Quebec players] at the end of the year. It doesn't work. It's not the number of players that counts. It's the ones who play and perform [...], not the guys who sit on the bench and play once in a while. Look at William Carrier, Nicolas Roy and Jonathan Marchessault in Las Vegas. Let's see! How can you [miss them all]?" - Courteau

Mr. Courteau also indicated that during Trevor Timmins' entire reign, he had only chatted with him once. Only once did the two men have a real discussion. That's completely unnatural.

Anyway, the Bergevin-Timmins reign is now a thing of the past, and Courteau seems excited about the arrival of Jeff Gorton, whom he admires. Gorton knows the QMJHL very well, and I have the impression that the discourse will change over the next few years.
