Alex Ovechkin scored an impressive 22 goals in 31 games this year, scoring a monstrous 752-goal career total, good for 4th place in NHL history.
From there, his ultimate goal, in addition to a career second Stanley Cup, remains to join and overtake Jaromir Jagr (766), Gordie Howe (801) and Wayne Gretzky (894). At the current rate, we are not talking about an impossible situation, especially since, despite his 36 years, he still seems to have a lot of gas in the tank.
I remind you that the captain of the Washington Capitals recently overtook Brett Hull (741) in the goal column and Dave Andreychuk (274) for the most powerplay goals. These are certainly outstanding achievements in today's hockey.
In short, Wayne Gretzky once again praised Washington's big number 8:
"There is no doubt that he will beat my record. It is only a matter of time. He's on track to score 40-50 goals this season, and maybe more. It's good for sport. I'm his biggest fan!» - Gretzky
If Gretzky believes it, we might as well believe it too, right?
