This weekend, Canadiens fans learned the sad news that Cole Caufield will miss the rest of the season. He will have to undergo surgery on his shoulder to heal an injury.
This news is quite surprising since the day before the announcement, the main interested party was on the ice, during a practice and was even having fun with his teammates and coaches.
On the airwaves of BPM Sports this Monday morning, Philippe Boucher said he was not surprised by the timing of this announcement. He even went further to say that this news could even hide a deal between the CH and the Caufield clan.
"When I see Pat Brisson, in the middle of this file there, in the decision to have him operated on his shoulder, in the choice of doctor, it confirms one thing to me, Caufield is already signed. We're going to wait to announce it until the timing is right, but Pat Brisson made sure [that there is an agreement]."
"Cole Caufield can continue to play, it's not an injury that's preventing him from playing. But to see all that's at stake involved in this decision there, certainly for me, the contract to Cole Caufield, the agreements are already made." - Philippe Boucher
Again according to Boucher, the broad outlines of the agreement would already be written and it would only miss the details so we can move on. They will subsequently find the right time to announce everything!
So we understand that Caufield played injured in recent months to show his value and, once he did that, with his 26 goals and 36 points in 46 games, he can now go heal his shoulder and return to 100% for the next camp.
A file to follow!
