Among the players who will become uncompensated free agents next summer are Jonathan Drouin, Paul Byron, Jake Allen and newcomers Evgeny Dadonov and Sean Monahan. Obviously, not all of these players will be able to receive a new contract from the organization, but as Samuel Doiron of Habsolumentfan.com reports, some of them were expected to be of interest to certain teams at the 2023 trade deadline.
Since few people expect the Habs to be in the running for a playoff spot, let's just say that this situation could be beneficial for Kent Hughes.
By the way on this subject, tipster Marco D'Amico of Montreal Hockey Now wrote an interesting article where he mentions that if some players could ever take advantage of their last year of contract to have a good season, it would not be impossible that the Habs organization would be open to offering some of them a new deal with the team.
Look at the CH players who will be free agents next summer, and who could be traded by Kent Hughes by the famous deadline (at the risk of losing them (for nothing) in July 2023:
- Evgeni Dadonov
- Paul Byron
- Jake Allen
- Sean Monahan
- Jonathan Drouin
- Corey Schueneman
They could be the next Brett Kulak, Ben Chiarot and company.
Like if Jonathan Drouin could finally come out of his shell and finally have a season worthy of his talent, or if Sean Monahan could make a comeback. So why not offer them a new deal to stay with the Habs.
However, since the Habs are still stuck with the salary cap, even with the injury to Carey Price, this option remains hypothetical for now, but we are not immune to a surprise and another coup from Kent Hughes.
Which ones would you keep and which ones would you trade (before the end of their contract)?
