In addition to Juraj Slafkovsky and Filip Mesar, the Canadiens would have acquired another 2022 first round pick for almost free thanks to Joshua Roy

Over the past few days and weeks, hockey fans around the world have been impressed with young Joshua Roy.

On his "golden pass", Roy surpassed none other than Jonathan Huberdeau for the most points scored by a Quebecer at the World Juniors, with 19. That's big.

We're not saying he'll be a Huberdeau, it's still too early to say, but a real expert made a big statement about the young Tricolore prospect:

"This guy right here came very close to being eligible for the 2022 draft and it would have been in the first round if that had been the case."

- Stephane Leroux

Wow. So that's saying the CH turned a fifth round pick, into a player with the value of a first round pick, that's solid!

This is the kind of pick that can really make a difference for a professional franchise.

It says a lot about Roy's talent that he would have been a 2022 first round pick, along with a Juraj Slafkovsky and a Filip Mesar, especially since Roy was literally weeks away from being eligible to be drafted in 2022.

It's as if the CH traded a 2021 5th round pick, for a 2022 1st round pick, simply by making a solid selection and drafting one of the youngest players of their draft. Hats off to them!

We look forward to following Roy's development over the next few weeks, as he already has 43 points and 18 goals in 26 games this season in the QMJHL.
