After winning the Stanley Cup three times between 2010 and 2015, the team has been in a rebuilding mode for the past few years, missing the playoffs in four of the last five seasons.
With the exception of Alex DeBrincat, the organization's young players have not developed at the rate that management would have liked, and among those youngsters is one Kirby Dach.
The third overall pick in the 2019 draft, the big right-handed center has just 59 points, including 19 goals in 159 games so far in his career and as Keven Mawn of Marqueur.com reports, the Habs may very well be interested in his services.
Informant Jimmy Murphy, who works for Montreal Hockey Now, posed an interesting question to his readers in one of his most recent articles when he asked if Kent Hughes could possibly be interested in the Blackhawks' center.
Dach has often been compared to Ryan Getzlaf, and the fact that sometimes it can take a little longer for this type of big man to develop could make the Habs interested in his services.
But in any case, his name has been circulating for weeks in Chicago in trade rumors and perhaps a change of scenery could be beneficial in his case. We remember that the Blackhawks sacrificed their 2018 first-round pick, defenseman Adam Boqvist, in the deal that brought Seth Jones to Chicago last summer, and perhaps the team could use the same strategy this offseason.
But in the event that the Habs draft Shane Wright with the very first pick in the upcoming draft, which is somewhat the same profile as Kirby Dach, Kent Hughes might not want to venture in that direction, as the price to acquire the young player from the Blackhawks would certainly be very high.
