Over the past weeks, rumours have surfaced linking Toronto native and former Habs defenseman P.K. Subban to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Of course, Subban would love to join the Ontario team in order to play for a team that is a contender for the big time and in his hometown.

However, Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas was on Bob Mccown's podcast. Dubas took the opportunity to deny the rumors that the Leafs are looking for the former Canadiens' number 76. Dubas mentioned that his organization had no intention of bringing in a player who will become a free agent next year.

Obviously, this is the case for Subban who will see his eight-year, nine-million-per-season deal expire at the end of the 2021-2022 season. Remember that he had signed this agreement with the Canadiens before being traded two years later to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Shea Weber.

The New Jersey Devils' defenseman has slowed down a lot in the last few seasons. Since his arrival in New Jersey, Subban has only scored 37 points in 112 games. Will he be able to bounce back this year and not take a huge pay cut next year?

One thing is for sure, if he is able to bounce back, he could be an interesting unrestricted player next July.
