During a recent appearance on TVA Sports' Jean-Charles Lajoie show, columnist Tony Marinaro spoke out on a hot topic with the Canadiens.

A trade or a contract extension for Sean Monahan?

It's a big debate currently among Montreal Canadiens fans, and it's certainly a major topic of discussion between Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton as well.

Is it better to trade Monahan (probably for a 1st round pick), or would it be better to offer him a new contract?

It's not so easy to get players as good as him, and he is younger than we think.

"If Lajoie would like General Manager Kent Hughes to sign him to a five-year, $25 million contract as soon as possible, Marinaro, on the other hand, would like the GM to trade him before it's too late." - Via TVA Sports

And you, which side are you on? See an excerpt from the discussion, but the full video is available at the bottom of the article.

"We need to sign him now before it gets too expensive!", Lajoie exclaimed.

"We need to trade him now before he gets injured!", Marinaro retorted.

"Five years for a player who has been injured more often than not, I don't know", Marinaro replied.

Monahan, 29 years old, 6th overall pick in 2013, has 34 points in 48 games this season (13 goals). He notably collected 82 points (34 goals) during the 2019 season with the Calgary Flames.

He is an excellent hockey player, still quite young, but with a heavy history of injuries.

Personally, we would not be closed to the idea of giving him 5 million a year, but not for 5 years. And you, what do you say?
