This is a rumor that quickly ignited on social networks last night, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton would be looking for the next star goalie of the future for the Montreal Canadiens and might look at Washington.

While Carey Price's situation is concerning, it seems that Hughes is already looking for a plan B regarding the situation in net (and a big one).

Marc Denis launched a real bomb, Thursday evening, during the Canadian's pre-game on RDS before the game against the Blues.

According to the team's game analyst, Kent Hughes inquired about the availability of Washington Capitals goaltender Ilya Samsonov. We are talking about a potential true star goaltender.

Why would he be available? The Caps currently have another excellent young goaltender in Vitek Vanecek, and they might like to pair him with a veteran like Marc-Andre Fleury, rather than going with two very young goalies.

The rumors are intensifying, there is smoke

As there is never smoke without fire, two Capitals scouts were spotted at the Bell Center during Thursday night's game against the Blues.

The Capitals have been scouting on the Canadiens for a few games, but yesterday was the first time Washington had two scouts in Montreal.

What could the Habs give for Samsonov? A player like Lehkonen could certainly interest them (he would have the value of a first-round pick), a Ben Chiarot could also certainly help them go far in the playoffs, and the Habs could also add a prospect or a good pick, they have several.

More details to come...
