The goaltender situation continues to generate a lot of buzz within the Montreal Canadiens organization.

Everyone knows that the organization can't keep three goalies for much longer, and everyone knows that Cayden Primeau can't go so long without playing a game.

It's literally very harmful for the young player's development.

In his most recent article, journalist Arpon Basu, who covers the Montreal Canadiens, approached the goalie situation from a very interesting angle.

He particularly mentioned this.

«It's largely the precise reason why the Canadiens don't want to lose Primeau to waivers. There's the possibility of a short-term injury for Samuel Montembeault or Jake Allen, but there's also the serious possibility of eventually losing Montembeault.

The Canadiens are interested in signing him, and that's why they are currently talking to his agent, but everything indicates that they will be very cautious.

The only way Montembeault can convince them to be less cautious is by playing more and playing well.» - Arpon Basu

In short, the CH doesn't want to lose Primeau to waivers, particularly so he can be Montembeault's backup next year, if Samuel leaves and signs with another team. After all, he will be an unrestricted free agent (UFA) and free as a bird next summer.

It's also interesting to note that apparently, the CH is cautious in this matter and doesn't want to commit «too easily» to signing a 3 or 4-year contract with Montembeault.

They are waiting to be certain.
