Now that Shea Weber has officially left the Habs organization, a new captain will eventually have to be named.
If the name of defenseman Joel Edmundson has often been mentioned in recent months, many experts have expressed their desire to see Nick Suzuki become Weber's successor for this prestigious title.
After all, the center is coming off the best season of his young career with 21 goals and 40 assists in 82 games.
But what does the main player think about his possible nomination as captain of the Habs?
As reported by my colleague Alex Néron of Fanadiens.com, Suzuki had a few comments on the subject and let's just say he would gladly accept the challenge.
"I think it would be something I could adapt to and also grow into the role. If I were to have that honor, it would be really special."
He also adds that it would be a big plus for his career and he is aware of the responsibilities it would bring.
"To be the captain of the Montreal Canadiens, it's a great honor and a lot of weight on your shoulders, but if it were to be me or anyone on the team, I would support them and I hope to have the same support."
There is still no timetable as to who will be the next captain of the Habs, but one thing is certain, whether it is Suzuki, Edmundson or someone else, the next player to wear the C on his jersey should bring a lot of leadership to this team and become a true mentor to the young players in the organization.
