Former NHLer and TSN Analyst Passes Away at 56, Hockey World Mourns
A terrible piece of news has just struck the hockey world and the National Hockey League community. TSN Ottawa radio host, and former NHLer, Shawn Simpson has passed away at the age of 56.
A true shockwave.
The NHL and the Ottawa Senators in mourning
Simpson was probably the most well-known analyst for the Ottawa Senators. He was present everywhere on social media, on television, on TSN's radio waves, and he was highly respected.
We regret to inform you of the passing of TSN Ottawa radio host, and former NHLer, Shawn Simpson, at the age of 56.
Simpson was drafted 60th-overall by the Washington Capitals in 1986, and although he never played in the NHL, he was the backup goaltender for two games. He played four games with Canada's U20 national team Canada at the 1987 IIHF World Junior Championship, winning Gold.
After his playing career was over, Simpson was hired as a scout for the Washington Capitals (NHL) from 1993-1997, and then Director of Hockey Operations for the franchise from 1997-2004. He then joined the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL) as a Pro Scout from 2004-2008. He finished his front office career with the Minnesota Wild (NHL) in 2013, after one season as a Team Consultant.
He was known in recent years as a influential media piece for the Ottawa Senators (NHL) and the NHL in general.

Ian Mendes, the VP of communications for the Ottawa Senators, has just posted a very touching message:
«I don't have the words today, but I will try.
Rest in peace, Simmer.»
For the VP of communications of the Ottawa Senators to post such a message, that speaks volumes.
It's heartbreaking and touching to read.
Reactions are pouring in from all over the National Hockey League right now.
Our condolences to the family and friends!
