After announcing that he has signed a one-season contract with the Winnipeg Jets, forward Pierre-Luc Dubois absolutely understood why people started speculating about his future in the NHL.
Many rumors were already sending him to Montreal (in two years) and Dubois is well aware of that. And he understands it.
However, this morning, in a generous interview he gave to Jean-Charles Lajoie on BPM Sports, the Quebec forward explained that nothing is decided in his case.
"Jets forward Pierre-Luc Dubois spoke about his contract situation, as he falls to a restricted free agent at the end of the season." - BPM Sports
A big rumor founded?
Asked about his future in the NHL and a possible interest in playing in Montreal, here's what Pierre-Luc Dubois had to say.
Question from JiC:
"Could you maybe reconsider a long-term deal with the Jets, as early as next summer?"
Pierre-Luc Dubois' answer:
"Yeah! I think everything is on the table. When I signed a one-year contract, it was easy to jump to conclusions about what happened, but at the end of the day, a long-term contract is not just a contract, it's still your life. I wasn't ready last summer to sign long-term, but next summer it may be different. I wanted to focus on hockey for another season, not necessarily thinking about contracts and money."
Answer from PIerre-Luc Dubois when asked more specifically about the Montreal Canadiens:
"As I said, my goal last summer was to prepare for a good season here in Winnipeg. We had a disappointing season, so my goal was to go one year at a time. Now I have a one-year contract, next summer it will be next summer. Right now, things are going great in Winnipeg. That's all I can think about right now."
It's up to you to draw your own conclusions. For the full interview:
A big thanks to our colleague Keven Mawn (Fanadiens.com) for the transcripts.
