In the aftermath of this stressful 2022 National Hockey League lottery, and now that the Montreal Canadiens have officially landed the first overall pick, all eyes are on the man who would normally become the first overall pick in the upcoming draft, Shane Wright.
He finally has a better idea of his next destination, and his intentions are very clear.
Wright spoke to the media yesterday, and he clearly committed to where he wants to be drafted. (At what rank?)
As reported by our colleagues at Marker.com, Wright said, in front of the media, that he definitely wants to be the first player selected in July, in part because he deserves it.
"I think I should be," he said when asked if he should be the very first pick. I think I'm the best player and I've done a lot to prove it for a long time."
"I'm a competitive guy and I want to be the first pick. I don't want anyone to take that away from me. I deserve to be the first player selected and I believe I will be." - Shane Wright
The young man does not lack confidence and seems to have no problem with pressure and expectations. We love it! This will be beneficial for him in a market like Montreal.
He continues:
"Obviously I'm thinking about it," he said of the draft. It's something I'm aware of and I'm looking forward to. But I have to focus on the present. I can't get too caught up in thinking about the future. I worry about what's going on with Kingston. I make sure I do things the right way and the rest will take care of itself."
Wright is clear that he's going to do whatever it takes to become a Habs player and he definitely wants to be picked by Montreal.
Let's also remember that a few weeks ago, the young promising center player had mentioned that he would be truly honored and that it would be a real dream for him to put on the Blue-White-Red uniform.
Everything is falling into place!
