Carey Price's return to the game is obviously pleasing to Habs fans and despite three losses in as many starts, we can be reassured by his performance.
But for his former Habs goaltending coach, Stephane Waite, his return to the game represents much more than just hockey games.
As reported by Jeff Drouin of Fanadiens.com, Waite was on 98.5's "Les amateurs de sports" show and talked about the special relationship he had with No. 31.
And let's just say he's pretty happy to see that his former protégé can now see the future with a lot of optimism.
"The thing that makes me most happy is seeing how good the guy looks. He looks good in his skin. He looks happy. To me, that's the most beautiful thing I've seen in Carey in the last week. It's something that really touched me to see how good he looks. Everything in his life is beautiful. His injury, I think he can move on, but between the ears, the fact that he's doing well, it really touches me."
But what makes Waite even prouder is how much of a family man Price truly has become and how emotional he was upon his return to the game.
"It was a tough year for him and the crowd had given him an incredible standing ovation. That guy there, after the game, he had tears and even during the game. After the game, I had talked to him again, he still couldn't believe it. He was so moved. Carey is a sensitive person. He loves children, people. He's a very good person who is very emotional."
Let's say that we are far from the Carey Price of the first years in Montreal where there were circulating several photos of him on the party.
Waite had become the goalie coach with the Habs in the summer of 2013 and it was from that point on that Price's career really took off. In 2014 he won the gold medal with the Canadian team at the Sochi Olympics and the following year he got his hands on not only the Vezina Trophy, but also the Hart Trophy.
Although he did not win any individual honors after that, he is still considered one of the best goalies in the NHL.
His former goaltending coach has been instrumental in the development of his career. A bit like François Allaire was for a certain Patrick Roy.
