These were the words of Owen Beck, who had the chance last year to play a game with the big club when he was called up from the Peterborough Petes on an emergency basis.
Chosen early in the second round by the Canadiens in 2022, the 19-year-old forward is well aware that the organization has given several young players a chance to prove themselves in recent years, and he would love for his turn to come in the fall.
It should be noted that Beck had quite an eventful season in 2022-2023.
In addition to playing a game with the Canadiens, Beck won a gold medal with the Canadian team at the World Juniors held in Halifax, and also won the Ontario Junior League playoffs, which allowed him to compete in the Memorial Cup tournament.
Not to mention that he was traded from the Mississauga Steelheads to the Peterborough Petes during the trade period. It was, let's say, a season full of twists and turns for the young man.
There is still a lot of work to be done for the Canadiens' young prospect, and although it will be difficult for him to secure a spot with the big club in the fall, it remains undeniable that Kent Hughes does not regret his decision to draft him with the very first selection of the second round in last year's draft.
It bodes well for the future!
Do you believe he will succeed? It would be quite a surprise, but one should not bet against him, as recently mentioned by Rob Ramage.
