Many experts predicted at the beginning of the year that the Ottawa Senators would not only be an improved team, but that the team from the Federal Capital could definitely make the playoffs.

However, the team is off to a rough start with a disappointing 6-10-1 record despite the arrival of forwards Alex DeBrincat and Claude Giroux.

Even though the season is still very young, it is obvious that Pierre Dorion will have to move to improve his team, especially on defense. Thomas Chabot is getting too much playing time and will probably need a boost.

What if that boost comes from the Habs?

During his segment on TVA Sports' JiC, Louis Jean wondered why the Senators didn't make a move for David Savard when he was an uncompensated independent player in the summer of 2021.

"There's a guy named David Savard in Montreal who was available. We decided he wasn't a player we were interested in."

We agree, number 58 could have been the perfect complement for Thomas Chabot and the journalist did not throw the towel as to a potential transaction between Pierre Dorion and his counterpart of the Habs.

"It's funny, I watch David Savard play and it seems to me that if he played with Thomas Chabot, it could make a pretty interesting duo. It would allow Thomas to excel and make a difference."

It is true that Savard is a veteran who would give Chabot a little more leeway on a defensive pairing in Ottawa, but let's just say that the defenseman's contribution this season with a certain Kaiden Guhle seems to be very much appreciated by the management.

However, if ever Kent Hughes received an attractive offer for his defenseman, he could not refuse to listen but as we know, the Habs' GM is not the type to complete a transaction without being certain to get something substantial in return.

To be continued.
