On Monday, the Calgary Flames reached an agreement with their two remaining compensated free agents, defenseman Oliver Kylington and forward Andrew Mangiapane.

Kylington will earn an annual salary of $2.5 million for the next three seasons while Mangiapane will earn an average of $5.8 million until the end of the 2024-2025 season.

With these signings, Brad Treliving now has a nearly full roster (22 out of 23 contracts) and still around $1.26M under the cap according to Capfriendly. It would be surprising if the DG's work is done, when more personnel moves could be coming soon.

After the acquisition of Jonathan Huberdeau, all indications are that the Flames GM could move again and make another deal.

Calgary currently has 7 defensemen under contract for between $1.55M and $4.95M. It would not be surprising if one of them left Alberta so that the team could acquire a winger. Recent rumors, to be taken with a grain of salt, mention that the Flames would like to acquire Joel Armia from the CH. When you know that the relationship between the two clubs is excellent and that the CH is looking for a right-handed defenseman, it seems very plausible.

It's also important to remember that Treliving will want to work out a long-term deal with Huberdeau. According to rumors, the Quebecer would want a 7 or 8 year contract worth between $9 and $10 million annually. The GM will need to start freeing up some cap space quickly, as he only has $27.6M in space for the 2023-2024 season, with only 14 contracts out of 23 active.

We recall that Treliving came to see his new acquisition in town on Monday night to talk face to face with him. It will be interesting to see if he can convince the forward to sign with them long term.
