The Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers could realistically make a trade
Despite reaching the conference finals last spring, the Edmonton Oilers are not having a season worthy of a team ready to move on to the next level.
While the team's record isn't all that bad, the Oilers are currently in last place for the playoffs in the Western Conference. There seems to be a growing dissatisfaction among Oilers fans and many are calling for the head of general manager Ken Holland.
In order to keep his team from falling down the standings, he will still have to bring in reinforcements, especially on defense. As we know, the name of Canadiens' defenseman Joel Edmundson has often been associated with the Oilers. Many experts believe that he is exactly the type of defenseman that the Alberta team is missing.
At least that's the opinion of Michael DeRosa. Indeed, he believes that the number 44 of the Canadiens will be one of the most coveted defensemen between now and the trade deadline.
His style of play would fit in perfectly with the Oilers who are desperately looking for reinforcements on the left side of the defense. With the retirement of Duncan Keith last summer, this team is sorely lacking a veteran defenseman who has already gone far in the playoffs and could bring some leadership to the team.
Edmundson, who has one more year left on his contract, has never been known as an offensive back, but sources say the price to acquire him could be higher than one would think due to the demand for that type of player as the trade deadline approaches.
This will be one of the most interesting cases to follow in the coming weeks.
Last season, the Oilers made a trade with the CH involving Brett Kulak. Will the two teams make another trade this season, this time involving Edmundson?
