Last year, there were some rookies that stood out in the NHL, including Kaprizov, Norris, Robertson, and Stützle, just to name a few. However, it was Kirill Kaprizov who took home the prized Calder Trophy for the NHL's rookie of the year.
We were also able to watch youngsters Cole Caufield, Trevor Zegras and Quinton Byfield at the end of the season. They have played a few games and will be eligible for the Calder Trophy in 2021-2022. Who will be the lucky one?
According to the famous site "Odds Shark", a reference in sports betting, Cole Caufield would be the favorite to win the title of Rookie of the Year next season, and by far.
He's followed by Swedish forward Lucas Raymond, drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in 2020, in second place.
Then, forwards Vasily Podkolzin (Vancouver, first round 2019) and Nick Roberston (Toronto, second round 2019) follow in third and fourth place.
Defenseman Moritz Seider (Detroit, first round 2019) rounds out the top-5.
Quinton Byfield (Los Angeles, first round 2020) Trevor Zegras (Anaheim, first round 2019) and Jamie Drysdale (Anaheim, first round 2020) round out the list with flying colors.
Yes, Cole Caufield is the favorite to win the Calder Trophy, especially with his incredible playoff performances, but the other youngsters should not be overlooked. They are also very talented, which could put a damper on the CH's first pick in 2019.
