A major trade has just been completed in the NHL, and two former first round picks are involved:
"The San Jose Sharks have acquired defenseman Jacob MacDonald and forward Martin Kaut from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Long Beach native Matt Nieto and defenseman Ryan Merkley." - CHN Merkley, 22, is a 2018 first-round pick (21st overall). He has great offensive potential, but it's more difficult defensively in his case.
He has 14 points in 30 games this season in the AHL. (and six points in the NHL)
Kaut, 23, is a 2018 first-round pick (16th overall). He has eight points in 10 games this season in the AHL. (and three points in the NHL)
This will give both promising youngsters a fresh start, and it will be interesting to follow their progress.
More details will follow.
