Some top teams will be looking to solidify their defensive brigade after the holidays, in preparation for the playoffs.
As they say, it's defenses that win championships.
That's why a certain Ben Chiarot is likely to attract interest across the league between now and the trade deadline. The Habs are in a precarious position in the standings, on track to miss the playoffs. Jeff Gorton is likely to go into fire sale mode in a while, especially with Ben Chiarot in the final year of his contract.
Journalist Marc-Antoine Godin even believes that the Panthers and Capitals, two teams with big-time aspirations, may try to acquire number 8 from the Habs.
Chiarot is the type of player who takes his game up a notch when it comes to competing for a championship.
These two teams are not the most fluent on the left side of the blue line, so a Ben Chiarot could do them a world of good.
Personally, I love Ben Chiarot, but in the current Habs situation, I would try to maximize the chances of getting a first round draft pick. Also, there are several young left-handed defenseman who should be coming to the big club in the very near future, including Kaiden Guhle, Mattias Norlinder and Jordan Harris.
