It's often said, but the draft is far from a very precise science, and the Philadelphia Flyers have learned this the hard way several times. If you think Trevor Timmins was bad as a head scout, how about the one in Philly?
In 2019, when they had a chance to draft Cole Caufield 14th overall, the Pennsylvania outfit opted for defenseman Cam York instead.
Is that a bad choice? Probably not. York has excellent potential. He is only 21 years old and has already played 33 games in the NHL, collecting 10 points. In fact, this season in the AHL, he scored nine points in 13 games at Lehigh Valley. An impressive stat line for a defenseman.
But Caufield had two goals and an assist yesterday. That hurts Flyers fans. Cole is also becoming one of the best goal scorers in the NHL, something the Flyers are looking for.
