When Kent Hughes traded Alexander Romavov to the New York Islanders in the first round of the NHL draft, many Canadiens fans at the Bell Centre showed their displeasure.
This transaction could seem surprising, especially since many experts had declared that the defenseman was part of the untouchable for the rebuilding of the team already well underway by Hughes and Jeff Gorton.
However, as Mathis Therrien of Danslescoulisses.com reports, Romavov's arrival with the Islanders is very well received and according to journalist Jon Lane, who covers the New York team, the former Canadiens player will have a fairly important role in the team's defensive brigade.
According to Lane, if we believe Lou Lamoriello's words, Romanov will play in the top-4, most likely in a duo with Noah Dobson.
We had an opportunity to acquire a 22-year-old top-4 defenseman. He shows great character, great competitiveness. We've played him enough times to know that. We know him and recognize what he can bring to the table. And he continues to develop. He has a lot of potential to become even better."
Dobson has blossomed in 2021-2022 with 51 points, including 13 goals, in 80 games and by pairing his offensive talents with Romanov's rather rugged style, this pair could give other NHL teams a run for their money.
