As we are in the midst of the NHL's professional tryout contract season, it appears that Kent Hughes and the Canadiens might have signed one.

We know that the Canadiens usually make their signing announcements on weekday mornings, but this Sunday, a curious piece of information surfaced.

A new name mysteriously appeared on the Montreal Canadiens' roster across various websites.

Are the Canadiens about to sign Cameron Whynot to a professional tryout contract?

Don't be surprised if this is announced this week.

Some claim that he has indeed signed a professional tryout contract with the Montreal Canadiens, but the team has yet to make any official announcement.

It hasn't been publicly confirmed.

Is it because this is a very minor signing?

Is it a simple mistake that several sites made at the same time?

This will be a small story to watch at the beginning of the week, but it could be an interesting depth option on defense. (via PTO)

Among the sites indicating that Whynot is now with the Montreal Canadiens, there is indeed Yahoo Sports.

At just 21 years old, Cameron Whynot is a 6-foot-2, 181-pound left-shot defenseman.

He was a third-round pick by the Calgary Flames in 2021 (89th overall) and played four full seasons with the Halifax Mooseheads in the QMJHL.

Given his profile, he would be a logical candidate for a professional tryout contract and, eventually, possibly for the Laval Rocket.

More details to follow.
