We have an update on Montreal Canadiens' goaltending prospect Jacob Fowler. Thanks to what Maxime Truman mentioned on the Stanley25 podcast, we've learned that Kent Hughes could sign goaltender Fowler much sooner than expected.

See what he reported earlier today.

«What I've learned is that the Canadiens want to turn him pro at the end of the season.

His season ends, listen, in March. If they make it to the Frozen Four final, their season will end two games before the Canadiens' schedule wraps up and three games before the Rocket's season ends. So, they have time to sign him, even if he goes all the way to the tournament final, and they can then bring him either to Montreal or Laval.»

- Maxime Truman

What we've been told is that the plan is to sign Fowler immediately at the end of his season, and he will join the Canadiens (or the Rocket) to finish the season.

Jacob Fowler could join the Canadiens two games before the end of this season

This is reminiscent of what we saw with Lane Hutson last year, and it will be very interesting to follow.

It happens toward the end of the following episode, along with another update involving Jakub Dobes:

One thing's for sure-with Samuel Montembeault, Jakub Dobes, Jacob Fowler, and even Cayden Primeau, who is possibly the best goalie in the AHL right now, the Canadiens will have quite the goaltending logjam.

It will be fascinating to see what Kent Hughes, Jeff Gorton, and Martin St-Louis decide.

Next year, if Fowler surprises and earns a spot in Montreal, a decision will have to be made between Montembeault and Dobes. Even if he plays with the Laval Rocket, management will need to figure out what to do with Primeau.

Exciting times ahead!

Fowler, 20 years old, is a 6-foot-2, 214-pound goaltender who was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the third round of the 2023 NHL Draft.

This season, with Boston College (NCAA), he has a record of 18-3-1, a 1.65 goals-against average, and a .938 save percentage.

He has twice as many shutouts as losses-imagine that!
