Kovalev makes a serious offer to Hughes and reveals interesting details on Necas
One of the most talented players to have worn the Montreal Canadiens uniform in the last twenty years is undoubtedly Alex Kovalev.
The player, nicknamed The Artist, was cherished by fans and left the organization reluctantly. From what we understand, he could return to the fold, but under certain conditions.
Hiring Alex Kovalev by the Montreal Canadiens? He opens the door
In an interview with Nicolas Cloutier of TVA Sports, Kovalev expressed his openness to returning to the NHL, but in a very specific role.
«I would love that, but it would have to be an offer that makes sense for me. If I'm asked to travel all over to scout and follow prospects, I am not the right candidate. I want to stay within the team's fold and be on the ice with the players.»
«It could be an assistant coach role or a position in the development department, but I just don't want to be moving around all the time. I still have the motivation to teach young players.» - Alex Kovalev
Kovy has not been toying with this dream just recently. He admitted in an interview with The Athletic that he had offered his services to the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Rangers after retiring as a player.
Currently, the former number 27 of the Habs has been working for two years as an assistant coach for Spartak Moscow, after holding the same position for Kunlun Red Star. He also works individually with players, including a certain Martin Necas.
He had very positive words for the Hurricanes forward, who is at the center of trade rumors.
TVA Sports - « L'élève d'Alex Kovalev qui intéresse le Canadien »
«There is a good part of his potential that has not yet been tapped. What you see is not his peak. He can give more.» - Alex Kovalev
It will be interesting to see if the Russian can finally return to North America to help young players. He truly seems to love hockey, and his guidance would be a great asset for many prospects.
