While his assistants, Martin Laperrière, Marco Marciano, and Charles Juneau, have all been extended, Kelly Buchberger will not be returning to the club.
It didn't take long for rumors about a possible addition of Paul Byron to the Rocket's coaching staff to resurface. We remember that after the club's elimination, the excellent Anthony Marcotte mentioned that he wouldn't be surprised to see the former Canadien behind the bench of the farm team.
However, Byron ended the rumors in an interview with journalist Jean-Philippe Arcand of La Presse. He is not interested in this full-time position.
We understand that the newly retired player prefers, for the moment, to spend time with his family. He is also coaching his son in minor hockey and seems to enjoy spending time with him. However, Byron does not close the door to the possibility of coaching a professional team in the future...
The former number 41 will not cease his activities within the Canadiens organization. He will continue to support the Canadiens' prospects and get on the ice to give them advice.
So, if Byron does not take the position vacated by Buchberger, it will be interesting to see who will get the job. Names like Sylvain Favreau, Carl Mallette, and Louis Robitaille often come up in rumors, all of whom have excellent track records.
Could a position alongside Martin St-Louis and Alex Burrows eventually convince Paul Byron? Stay tuned.
