The renowned journalist Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet made a new statement concerning Trevor Zegras and the Montreal Canadiens.

In his most recent episode of the 32 Thoughts podcast, Friedman confirmed that Kent Hughes was indeed very active this summer in trying to acquire an impact forward.

But it wasn't just about those two forwards.

Trevor Zegras was truly in Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens' sights

Knowing this, can we still expect to see Zegras, Cole Caufield's best friend, traded to the Habs?

Here's what Friedman just said.

«They wanted to add a big offensive player this summer. We've heard all these rumors involving Trevor Zegras. I don't believe it's close right now, and I don't expect it, but they got Laine.»

- Elliotte Friedman

For now, we can put those rumors aside.

In any case, we are extremely happy to see that Kent Hughes was able to get a player like Patrik Laine, especially considering the price paid!

Laine, 26, has tallied 61 points in his last 73 games with Columbus.

Zegras, 23, has amassed 80 points in his last 112 games with Anaheim.

Obviously, the price to acquire Zegras via trade would have been much higher than what was paid to get Patrik Laine from the Blue Jackets.
