This decision and verdict are absolutely terrible, but it once again shows how underrated he is as a player in the NHL.
According to what was just announced, Nick Suzuki finished 13th in the voting for the Selke Trophy, or better known as the Patrice Bergeron Trophy.
Barkov absolutely deserves to have won the trophy, and it was the right decision, but seeing Suzuki receive so little love and votes is incomprehensible to many.
Auston Matthews and Jordan Staal finished 2nd and 3rd in the ballot, respectively, and they are followed by a myriad of names.
Here is the final ballot for the Selke Trophy:
It's incredible to see names like Jason Dickinson, Seth Jarvis, and Adam Lowry ahead of Suzuki.
They are excellent defensively, but they are extremely far from having the workload and challenges of Suzuki, who constantly has to play 21-22 minutes per night against the best players of each team.
He constantly has to neutralize the likes of Nikita Kucherov, Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, Auston Matthews, David Pastrnak, and company... every night!
In short, it's up to you to judge, but I believe the captain of the Habs deserved much more recognition for his exceptional work.
