Well, just moments ago, the excellent Marco Normandin (HABSolumentFan) published an article that shows just how intense it got for Laine when he was playing for the Winnipeg Jets.
See the excerpt in question:
However, the problem was that Laine found the hotel room televisions too small and not good enough, so he asked the Jets to buy him a new TV for each road trip.
You read that correctly.
According to the two journalists, Laine would (on each trip) ask a staff member to go buy him a giant-screen TV so he could play Fortnite.
What would he do with the TV afterward? He would simply leave it in the hotel room.
I want to clarify that I don't see this as an issue at all. On the contrary, I just categorize it as a «quirky» topic and an interesting story to know.
Besides, Laine is no longer the same person and has entered a whole new phase in his life.
Maybe I'm just odd, but here are my two initial reactions upon learning all this:
1. I'm extremely impressed that Laine managed to score 36 goals, 44 goals, 30 goals, and 28 goals (in 68 games) in the National Hockey League while being so young and barely sleeping. That says a lot about his immense talent.
2. I also highlight the following point, which shouldn't be overlooked: «The players would go out together to various bars after games, but Laine preferred to return to the hotel alone to play video games.»
Patrik Laine has always led a quiet lifestyle!
Today, he's becoming such a fulfilled young man, and it's wonderful to see him grow.
