Even though the season is still very young, in recent hours, some have genuinely raised the possibility of seeing Martin St-Louis being fired by the Montreal Canadiens.
Here's my humble opinion, or at least, my analysis of this situation.
First, do I believe that Martin St-Louis will be fired by Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton?
The answer is no. This got me thinking.
Let's go back to March 2024, when journalist Renaud Lavoie made the following statement.
«Jim Montgomery will coach the Canadiens someday,» says Renaud Lavoie.
He didn't say that for nothing.
So, I don't think Martin St-Louis will be fired by the Montreal Canadiens - rightly so, in my opinion, despite what some say.
However, if Jim Montgomery ever loses his job with the Boston Bruins, watch out.
At that point, I sincerely believe that Martin St-Louis's position could become unstable, and the Hughes/Gorton duo could seize the opportunity to hire someone like Jim Montgomery, as he'll be highly sought after.
In short, let's not jump to conclusions.
Montgomery is in Boston, St-Louis is in Montreal, and we need to give Marty time to silence his critics, as he has mentioned himself.
The point here is simply to say:
1. Don't expect to see MSL fired.
2. If Jim Montgomery loses his job in Boston, then we might start questioning things - if St-Louis hasn't managed to right the ship.
