Kent Hughes is back on the NHL trade market, and the reputable Darren Dreger has new insights.

It's now officially confirmed: Kent Hughes has picked up the phone and is trying to finalize a trade to improve his team.

Pierre LeBrun confirmed it, David Pagnotta confirmed it, Frank Seravalli confirmed it, and now Darren Dreger has added his input.

All of this happened within less than 36 hours.

A trade proposal between the Canadiens and the Predators involving defenseman Dante Fabbro

Indeed, Pierre LeBrun mentioned that Kent Hughes is attempting something on the trade market.

Frank Seravalli added that the Habs' general manager is targeting a right-handed defenseman for his top-four

And now, we have Darren Dreger, who has a suggestion.

Speaking on TSN this morning, the TSN insider confirmed that Kent Hughes has reached out to teams following his club's poor start to the season.

«I think teams struggling at the start of the season are looking to shake things up.» - Darren Dreger

Dreger believes Hughes might look toward a «project,» and he mentions the name of Nashville Predators defenseman Dante Fabbro.

«Good players aren't randomly available, but you can find a project, a guy on waivers, or even a player who no longer seems part of his team's plans. I used Dante Fabbro as an example last night on Insider Trading. [...] There's no real risk.

If there's a trade like this that makes sense and Kent Hughes is willing to take a chance, why not try something? Dante Fabbro could maybe fill a gap or a spot.» - Darren Dreger

This is something to keep an eye on, but I'm not convinced.

I see Fabbro as a less appealing version of Justin Barron, and I don't believe he's what the Montreal Canadiens need right now.

Plus, Fabbro is far from being an established NHL top-four defenseman.

At 26 years old, Fabbro is a right-handed defenseman, 6 feet tall and 189 pounds, who was drafted 17th overall by the Nashville Predators in 2016 (1st round).

Fabbro has 72 points and 159 penalty minutes in 313 career games in the NHL.

This season, he has 0 points in 4 games.

Dante Fabbro is signed through next summer with a $2.5 million salary.

Details will follow, but I'm personally not convinced by this suggestion, unless it allows for trading someone like Christian Dvorak, for example.
