Young Habs prospect admits he hated playing against Florian Xhekaj
Florian Xhekaj, just like his brother Arber Xhekaj, clearly leaves no one indifferent.
I have the feeling that the Canadiens' 2023 fourth-round pick, just like his brother Arber, will be a fan favorite. (and definitely not a favorite of his opponents)
In a recent interview, notably with former professional scout Grant McCagg, Canadiens prospect Owen Protz had a lot to say about the younger Xhekaj brother.
"He does everything. He blocks shots, he drops the gloves, he scores goals. He forechecks. A guy like that on your team is essential."
- Owen Protz
Protz, who was a teammate of Florian Xhekaj with the Brantford Bulldogs and who was drafted by the same NHL team as Xhekaj (the Montreal Canadiens), hated facing #43.
From one young player in the Montreal Canadiens organization to another, Owen Protz had a lot to say about Florian Xhekaj
Before being traded to the Bulldogs, Protz had the chance to face off against Xhekaj a few times when he played with the Sudbury Wolves, and he didn't like playing against him.
"When I was with Sudbury, we hated him. We hated him so much. I hated playing against him. He's big, he's fiery, and he can play very well. He's the kind of player you hate to face."
- Owen Protz
You can tell he has a lot of respect for the kind of player Florian Xhekaj is, and you can sense that he's very happy to now be on his team.
Protz, who is described as a very tough player himself, could do a great job in the coming years alongside the two Xhekaj brothers.
These are names to remember, these two fourth-round picks of the Montreal Canadiens.
