The hockey world is in mourning today as we have unfortunately just learned of the passing of former Quebec Nordiques player Brad Maxwell.

The former 7th overall pick (1st round) of the Minnesota North Stars in 1977 also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Vancouver Canucks, and the New York Rangers.

Maxwell was only 66 years old; he was still young. He passed away after a battle with cancer.

Over his NHL career, he accumulated 368 points in 612 games as a defenseman, in addition to racking up 1,292 penalty minutes.

He was a fan favorite back in the day, notably amassing 119 penalty minutes in a single season in Quebec. (31 points in 50 games)

We're talking about a player here who could contribute in every way! He could quarterback a power play and be strong offensively (73 points in 78 games in 1984), but he could also be one of the best defensive defensemen.

Not to forget, he was also a very tough guy.

Our deepest condolences to his loved ones.
