The NHL announces that new expansion teams are coming: the Quebec Nordiques are considered by Adam Proteau
In the last few hours, Bill Daly confirmed to Elliotte Friedman that new expansion teams are coming to the National Hockey League.
When discussing the upcoming expansions in the NHL, following Seattle and Las Vegas, Daly straightforwardly mentioned that "it's coming" and that the union believes in it too.
Now, will the NHL increase to 34 teams? 36 teams? He didn't want to go too far on that point.
However, you can guess that this news has slightly revived discussions about the much-anticipated return of the Quebec Nordiques.
I can't believe that the NHL would decide to go back to Atlanta again, but even if that happens, I don't see how Gary Bettman could find FOUR better cities than Quebec to host an expansion team.
That said, let's get back to Adam Proteau.
The Hockey News has just published a new article about the much-anticipated return of the Quebec Nordiques
Journalist Adam Proteau, who is not a Quebecer at all, has just published an article titled NHL Expansion: Quebec City Has NHL-Ready Rink and Passion. Will It Get Another Shot?.
Here's an excerpt from the article in question.
«Every time there's talk of NHL expansion, Quebec City is at the center of public discussions.
The city made a bid to get another team at the same time as Vegas, but the NHL's executive committee wasn't convinced and only voted for the Golden Knights. But that didn't stop the discussions, and it shouldn't have.
Of all the cities in the running to host an NHL expansion team, Quebec City arguably has the most NHL-ready infrastructure right now and a passion for the game, though there are still other issues regarding corporate support, the Canadian dollar, and more.»
- Adam Proteau, via The Hockey News
He also talks about the potential rivalry with the Montreal Canadiens, the immense popularity of the Quebec Remparts, which is a junior hockey team, and he obviously also presents the other side of the coin.
Especially after Bill Daly's statement to Friedman, and now that we know expansion teams are coming to the NHL, we strongly recommend the full article below.
