Let's settle this right away.
We can absolutely forget about that idea.
According to an exclusive report from Rich Keefe, Swayman is asking for an annual salary of $10 million per year.
The Boston Bruins don't seem ready to pay such an amount for their number one goaltender, so an offer sheet might work, but it would be way too expensive.
Yes, the idea is circulating.
Could the Canadiens offer sheet Jeremy Swayman to further accelerate the rebuild?
But I really, really don't believe the Montreal Canadiens will consider this option.
First of all, I don't think Kent Hughes will want to pay $10 million per year for a goaltender, especially not with a great prospect like Jacob Fowler coming up relatively soon.
Secondly, it would be completely illogical to give up TWO first-round picks + a second-round pick + a third-round pick to acquire another goaltender (those are the compensations for such an offer sheet).
Moreover, it's important to mention that these picks have to be the Montreal Canadiens' own picks.
We really hope the Canadiens will be competitive this season, but what if those picks end up being top 5 overall? That would be disastrous.
Yes, Jeremy Swayman is an excellent goaltender, but no, he's not an option for Kent Hughes.
This will still be a story to watch in the coming weeks.
