Major TVA Sports Publication: Steven Stamkos Might be Leaving Tampa Bay and the Montreal Canadiens Should be Hopeful
One of the biggest stories in the NHL this week, as training camps start, is undoubtedly the situation between Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Recall that earlier this week, he sent a powerful message that generated a lot of reactions.
"To be honest, I'm disappointed in the lack of discussions about this (new contract with the Lightning).
At the end of the last season, I had expressed the wish that this would be settled by the start of the camp [it's not even close to being done]. I'm ready to negotiate [during the season]. I didn't see this coming, but this is the current situation."
"I've mentioned that I'd like to continue and finish my career here. However, it's out of my control. I obviously can't draft the contract by myself." - Steven Stamkos
A strong message to his boss.
Stamkos is clearly disappointed in how things have turned out and the apparent lack of interest from his bosses to put him under contract.
There's new information and it's big!
According to recent news and as mentioned by the renowned Elliotte Friedman from Sportsnet, many sources believe that the Lightning wouldn't necessarily be too upset if Stamkos leaves.
Excuse me?
Some go even further, specifically saying that the Lightning is actually ready to let Stamkos go. Wow.
"I know people close to Stamkos, I've talked to players, and many tell me there's a feeling that Tampa wouldn't necessarily be too upset if he leaves the Lightning." - Elliotte Friedman, noting that Stamkos is one of the few key players of the Lightning not to have been signed a year before the end of his contract
Imagine a player like Stamkos arriving in Montreal and guiding the youngsters with his championships. It would be an incredible way to round off our rebuilding (in a year).
It's very unlikely, but with Kent Hughes, Vincent Lecavalier, and Martin St-Louis at the helm, we can hope.
Returning to the possible departure of Stamkos from Tampa, TVA Sports goes even further, bluntly saying it feels like the end.
