I'm convinced it's purely coincidental and absolutely unintentional on his part, but Thompson has inadvertently sparked controversy due to his new pads. Yes, you read that correctly.
It seems he'll need to order new ones.
In the past few hours, and for the first time since being acquired from the Vegas Golden Knights, Logan Thompson was seen at the Washington Capitals' practice.
And he was sporting his brand-new pads, as shown here:
Just minutes after the photo was posted, it quickly went viral online, with many fans criticizing the fact that they strongly resemble the Confederate Flag.
Personally, I don't think the resemblance is that obvious, but hey, you can judge for yourself.
Some very popular pages and well-known journalists even added fuel to the fire.
It will be interesting to see if these reactions are enough to make him change his pads or not.
Personally, I believe he simply intended to match the colors of the Washington Capitals, along with the stars from the Caps' alternate logo, but it's understandable why it's causing a stir.
Logan Thompson, 27, is a 6-foot-4, 205-pound goaltender. He was traded from the Capitals to the Golden Knights last June in exchange for two third-round picks.
