A 2022 draft pick from the Canadiens just signed in Europe and it's the young 18-year-old player Vinzenz Rohrer
In the last few minutes, thanks to the excellent Andrew Zadarnowski, we learned that the Montreal Canadiens' hope, Vinzenz Rohrer, signs in Europe.
Vinzenz Rohrer has signed a two-year contract with the Zurich Lions in Switzerland, covering his 19 and 20 seasons. The Canadiens' third-round pick must be signed by June 1, 2024, to retain his rights, which would conflict with his second season with the Lions.
However, it should be noted that an NHL contract would override the last year of a European pact.
It's interesting to note that Rohrer will make the leap to the pros and will play in a much higher caliber league. This is interesting for his development.
Rohrer, 18, is a 5 foot 11 inch, 170-pound Austrian winger.
He racked up 49 points in 54 games last season with the Ottawa 67's, in the OHL, and 12 points in 11 playoff games.
He was drafted 75th overall (3rd round) in the 2022 National Hockey League draft by the Montreal Canadiens, 13 spots after Lane Hutson.
Details to follow.
